Sarah Palin
Governor Sarah Palin probably has been more scrutinized than any Vice-Presidential candidate in recent history, if ever. The “Stop Palin Now” movement just demonstrates the controversy McCain’s pick for VP has stirred.
But why is a Vice-Presidential candidate the source of so many news stories and blog entries (including my own)? Is there an unspoken message that people do not feel that McCain will last out his term as President? Or is there a bitterness knowing that the first potential female President might not be Hilliary Clinton?
Whether or not you like her as a person or as a politician, there is no justification to judge her on her motherhood. When was the last time a male candidate was asked if he were a good father to his children? Such attacks only diminishes the opposition’s significance in the debate. They become relegated to “rhretoric rousers.”
I am not saying whether or not I support McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden, but I would feel better if the debates and commercials would stick with the facts, list what the candidates support, and give us a clearer picture of what to expect from either side. (The jaded amongst us already has the answers: Republicans = Big Business, Democrats = Big Government.) But generalizations aside, we deserve better answers from all the candidates.
And my questions to Palin would not involve housework either.

Totally agree – IMHO Sarah Palin has plenty of issues with her record and past leadership behaviors to make a case against, but when I see the Dems question her personal life it makes me want to defend her. Why is it that the woman is scrutinized on a different level than her male counterparts?
